What’s in My Carry-On? A Look Inside

Jul 8, 2019Archives, AT HOME, Personal

Now that our house is *almost* done, Brandon and I have felt more freedom to go on a couple of trips. Whenever I travel domestically, I make it a goal to not check my luggage with the airline. Not only does it save money, but it also saves time by not having to wait in the baggage area when we land. I had been on the hunt for months to find the most versatile bag for a carry-on and to use for the gym. You know me, I love a multi-purpose item! I found this bag last summer for less than $30 (I think it’s $32 now) and have been using it ever since. It now comes in a beautiful gray color, which I didn’t see when I bought it.

Trust me when I say I did my research for this carry-on bag. My specific needs were: separate shoe compartment, small outside zipped pocket, small inside pockets (zipper and mesh) for smaller items. For a hot minute I almost bought a Hershel bag, but I didn’t want to sacrifice all the pockets that this one has.

Since we are leaving for California in a couple weeks, I thought I’d share what’s inside my carry-on. We will be gone for 4 nights. Most of my clothing I plan to bring is basic enough to wear as a multi-purpose item. We also usually do a combined load of laundry when we travel.

  1. Blazer and jumpsuit. Easy and comfortable outfit.
  2. Travel size flat iron I use to straighten or curl
  3. Makeup bag- Follow the link to this post to see what’s inside.
  4. Long tank top- can wear with leggings
  5. Sweatshirt to travel in and/or wear to bed if it’s chilly at night
  6. Black leggings to wear or sleep in
  7. Hair dryer
  8. Black body suit tank to layer & stripe t-shirt
  9. Black Zara jeans
  10. Snacks for the plane and reusable bag for any local shopping
  11. Toiletries
  12. Underwear separates bag from J.Crew.
  13. Travel towel
  14. Shower flip flops
  15. Reusable water bottle by Nalgene.
  16. Black shoes and sneakers. (I’m obsessed with the separate shoe compartment!!!)
  17. Small purse to use at my destination that I pack empty
  18. Neck pillow for the flight

For my personal item, I carry a small black backpack with my wallet, laptop, charger, planner, and any items I would keep in my purse.

I literally have been using this bag 2-3 times a week since last summer. It’s held up really well. Last I checked, there were less than a dozen of this bag left on Amazon, so run, don’t walk if you’re in the market!
