Fall is my favorite season for fashion. I love the trends that come out because they are so versatile, and can carry over to winter easily by layering. One trend that I am loving is the detailed collar looks. There are a variety of looks on trend for collars- from lace collars, to over-sized collars, to embellishments, to a contrasting colored collar from the rest of the blouse. Basically, if it stands out from the rest of the blouse, you almost can’t go wrong.
There are many many ways that you can get in on this trend without blowing the budget. You can purchase an inexpensive shirt from the clearance rack like I did, or use a shirt from your own closet that could use a sprucing up. I’m sure that you have at least one old shirt in there with a collar that you can transform. Here is what you’ll need:
A shirt with a collar, iron-on embellishments, (I used Tulip iron on glass crystals that I purchased from Jo-Ann Fabrics) tweezers, an iron and an ironing board.
Use the tweezers to layout the gems. They are much more precise at holding those teeny little gems than using fingers. Trust me, it can get really frustrating really fast if you can’t lay them exactly where you want them if your fingers get in the way.
When you have the gems exactly where you want them, follow the specific directions on the packaging of the iron-on gems. The Tulip brand gems said to heat up the iron on the cotton setting, and hold the iron over the gems for 15-20 seconds. Be sure to check to see if the fabric you are using can withstand the hot temperatures. If not, you might want to consider a different material shirt. Repeat the exact same thing on the other collar.
And there you have it! Perfect for Fall!
