It’s that time of year again! ‘Season’s Greetings’ cards are being mailed left and right- I already have a few of my own up on my refrigerator from friends and family. Sending greeting cards is a great way to show the people in your life that you care about them during the season of giving.
I have to admit something to you. Brandon and I have never sent out greeting cards! This year we are going to break that tradition and make up for lost time by embossing our own cards! If you want to join us and do the same, here are the supplies you will need: stationary, embossing ink, embossing powder, stamps, (I used letters of the alphabet) newspaper, an old baking sheet and an oven.
To avoid getting powder everywhere, I strongly suggest laying newspaper over your table before you begin. The embossing ink is clear, so you have to be a good judge of where you stamp. Once you stamp on the paper, carefully sprinkle a small amount of the embossing powder onto your paper. The powder should cling to the sticky ink. Shake the paper gently until the whole image or letter is filled with the powder. Tap the card onto another paper on the table to remove the excess powder. You can reuse it for the next letter or image. If you pressed too hard on the stamp, (like I usually do) and you get stamp edges on the paper, take a small paint brush and sweep away the excess powder.
Repeat the same process for however many cards you need. To set the embossing powder on the card, it needs to melt. You can use a fancy embossing gun, or you can “bake” the cards in the oven. I heated my oven to 250 degrees and let them bake for about four minutes until the embossing powder melted together onto the paper.
What’s great about these embossed greeting cards is they are so personal and no two cards are alike. I hope this has inspired you if not for this year, but maybe next. Season’s Greetings!
