Even though we have been living in our house for just over 3 weeks it feels like forever ago that we were installing our floor. Just to give you an idea about badly I’ve been waiting to put in new flooring, I’ve literally been asking to do it since day one. For the last four months we had been working on all the dirty, sometimes not so fun parts of the renovation. Part of what kept me going was knowing that if I could get through all that, each step of the way was getting us closer to installing the new floor.
Brandon and I decided to do radiant floor heating as our source of heat for our house. Radiant floor heating is not good for hardwood floor because the tubing cycles extremely hot water through it, which would expand and contract the hardwood. So instead of hardwood we chose a wood grain style flooring called luxury vinyl tile or LVT from Shaw Flooring which we purchased from our favorite local flooring company. LVT is installed in 4 foot individual planks using various methods of installation. We opted for the 5th and Main line in the Atlantic Station collection in the color “State.” This particular line of flooring uses an industry brand adhesive for the installation which takes about 24 hours to cure. It also requires the floor to be rolled over with a 100 pound roller (which we rented from Home Depot) since the glue is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
^ Our first glue schmear and installation of the LVT. We found out a little too late in the game but when using this adhesive, less is more. We went a little overboard with the glue at first. Rookie mistake!
Before I show you the new floor, let me remind you of what our upstairs looked like before:
^ Taken from the inside of the bedroom looking toward the bay window
After the first night of installation:
^ Looking down into our bedroom, and the view from inside our bedroom
We are sooooo happy to be done with the upstairs flooring.
It was definitely worth the wait.
