I’m a huge fan of the TOMS brand and what they represent with their one for one mission.  (I’ve had the same pair of TOMS shoes for years and they are the comfiest shoes ever!) Well, I was watching the news recently and learned that TOMS sells coffee now! Being a huge lover of coffee, I of course wanted to sample it immediately.

I usually only purchase dark roasted coffee, but I wanted to do a comparison of the different roasts that TOMS offers. I chose 3 of the 6 varieties offered online: Honduras (dark), Peru (medium) and Rwanda (light). I purchased the whole bean option, but the ground option is also available.

As I set up the taste test, I wanted to make sure the experiments were consistent. Each varieties of coffee beans were ground to approximately the same coarseness, and I brewed roughly the same amount of coffee in a French press each time. (As you can tell, I’m a highly scientific person) On a side note, I conducted this all on the same day so I was a little coffee buzzed by the end.

Honduras Roast- Dark: This coffee has a nutty, bold, and slightly bitter flavor. The aroma is very pleasant, and for someone who likes their coffee black usually, I found this variety of TOMS coffee much more enjoyable with a vanilla cookie (or a biscotti would be nice too) which helps enhance the bold flavor. I would say this coffee is a typical dark roast, very enjoyable!

Peru Roast- Medium: This was my least favorite of the three coffees I ordered, but it was still worth the taste to me. Before even brewing this roast, I kept inhaling the grounds because they smelled so good- with a hint of berries. The Peru roast is mild in bite, and nothing too fancy, a little plain actually, if I may. I paired this roast with graham crackers to offset the taste. If you prefer a more bland, easy to go down cup, then this is the roast for you!

Rwanda– Light Roast: This coffee surprised me the most. I tasted the coffees in the order listed in this post, and this roast is my favorite! I couldn’t believe it because normally I’m a dark roast gal. The grinds smell like almond biscotti mixed with leather. The coffee itself is a little muddy, but it has a wonderful citrus aftertaste. I paired this roast with Thin Mint cookies for the win.

Since coffee is a drink that holds such a personal preference to each person, it’s hardly fair to take my experience with TOMS coffee as absolute. I want you to have the opportunity to taste it for yourself!

I will be giving away a $20 TOMS gift card to use on the TOMS website- it can be used on anything on their site, not just coffee. All you need to do to enter in this giveaway is subscribe to this blog above, and leave a comment below telling me how you take your coffee. To subscribe, just enter your email above and hit “subscribe.” When you do so, you will be notified by email in the future every time there’s a new blog post. Simple! The winner will be chosen randomly and I will notify that person by email in one week!

Good luck!
