“It’s Just a Patio Breezeway”

I figured it was about time to start sharing more details of our home addition with you. Brandon and I broke ground in April earlier this year, (2022) fully intending to be wrapping up by now. We all know how that goes! Didn't you just finish your house?? That is a great question my friend. Yes, we did just finish our house, kitchen and all, back in 2019. But like so many other folks who spent...

From humble beginnings

WHERE IT ALL STARTED…

When Brandon and I bought our home in 2014 we were totally clueless about what we were getting into. I remember Brandon naively telling his grandfather that we would be done with the construction in a “few months.” 5 years later we were finally hanging the kitchen cabinets on the wall. You might remember the days of us living upstairs of the house we resentfully- er, I mean, affectionately called our studio apartment, complete with our closet kitchen.

Both of us have always loved doing projects. For me, I first got my hands dirty refurbishing old furniture at our first apartment. I have always had this creative side to me that I loved expressing through art and decor. I fell in love with the process while transforming a piece of furniture. So when this opportunity to buy a fixer-upper on the river came along, of course, I jumped on board.

During the process of our renovation, I decided to get my real estate license. I thought, “Hey, if Chip and Joanna can do it, we can too!” My business took off, but not in the way I had imagined. We weren’t flipping houses like I initially dreamed we would do. I was helping my friends and their friends find houses in a real estate market that was shifting faster than you could say: “Sold!”

Brandon and I have taken what we’ve learned over those 5 years of rebuilding our home from the inside out and are now applying that knowledge to the 450 sq/ft addition we are building onto our little river cottage. We already have some important takeaways from the process. I hope you enjoy reading along and learning with us as we go along.
