Do you ever feel like you need a ‘To-Do list’ for your to-do list? I do.
The hardest part about being a Realtor is managing expectations and communication. I am constantly updating my To-Do list every hour. If I’m in a meeting, my phone is on silent so whoever I’m meeting has my full attention. The trade-off for that is I return to a dozen messages, each with a new to-do.
It’s not really so much that I am “too busy” for the tasks I have. My work-life and home-life so often blend together that those lines get blurred. You would think that it would be easy for me to just buckle down and do them. But no, switching from “home life Maggie” to “Realtor Maggie” is very difficult and takes a lot of mental energy for me. If you run your own business and struggle with this too, I’m open to any suggestions!
Last week was one of those weeks where I kept worrying that I was forgetting a meeting or an appointment. All things considered; I got a lot done:
Staged a house that just hit the market.
I gained a couple new clients, (a buyer and a buyer/seller)
Negotiated an offer,
Had an inspection for my highest sale pending yet,
Chased down a few of young whippersnapper bro agents for information,
Closed on a listing,
Had zoom meetings,
Researched/referred an agent to a family member,
Showed a few fixer uppers,
Opened a new bank account, (thanks, RBG)
Started the re-fi process on our house,
Worked with my company graphic designer on Facebook ads
… and still managed to have dinner with Brandon every night. (Don’t be too impressed about the last one, we use a meal delivery service!)
The point of this list is not to brag about my accomplishments. As I was sitting down to journal, I began to feel like I had nothing to show for my week because none of my home-life tasks got done. Rather than go down the path of beating myself up or telling myself how lazy I am, I made this list. I actually got a lot of sh*t done and I deserve to give myself a little grace.
So this week, before you beat yourself up for not doing “all the things”, make a list of what you have done. Because let’s face it, you know you’ve done a lot. Pour yourself another cup of coffee and put on your favorite big girl pants. Now go put a check mark next to each of those things on your list. Pat yourself on the back, give yourself some grace, and get moving!
These are moments from my other Five Wins from last week:
^ This sign made me literally LOL as I drove past it.
^My client texted me this photo to let me know the sign was installed at her house.
^ We stood in line for an hour and half for these donuts and it was worth every minute!
