This past week, as I was browsing on Netflix and Selling Sunset came up as a suggested show for me to watch. Honestly, after I watched the preview for it, I thought to myself: “This is just another trashy reality TV show.”
I was exactly right.
But the truth is, I cannot stop watching this show. It’s like a grown up version of The Hills, but with more money and the same amount of drama. I’m still only in the first season and I am hooked.
You would think that as a Realtor, the last thing I would want to do in my down time is watch a real estate themed reality TV show. Why is it, that no matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to break this pull toward houses?
Selling Sunset made me stop and what if I were on a real estate reality TV show? It would be called Selling Schenectady. Only instead of listing 5 million-dollar pads in hidden hills, I would document my days going through historic old houses in downtown Schenectady, Old Niskayuna and Scotia averaging a humble $200K price point.
As I clicked “skip intro” and the next episode started playing, I suddenly found myself craving a glass of “sauv blanc.” I sipped slowly, and imagined myself for a moment as one of agents at Oppenheim Group.
Obviously, Schenectady is nothing at all like LA. So to compare my career in real estate to someone in another city like that is just unfair. I mean, how am I supposed to walk through a distressed short sale property wearing 4-inch heels like Christine?
The truth is, Selling Sunset inspired me. By inspired, I don’t mean that I’m moving to LA or getting a boob job. I mean, even though I work in real estate, this show still pulled me in. Watching other Realtors do their job, negotiate deals, show houses and yes, bicker with each other was interesting to me. It gave me pause enough to think that maybe, just maybe, a few people out there would want to read or listen to my stories of adventures in real estate Selling Schenectady.
So that’s where I’m at. I still plan to share house updates, work related tips and Wins of the Week. But Selling Schenectady is what I know and is what I am really good at. I have a lot of stories in my memory bank and if you would like to read them, I’d love to share them.
Do you want to hear them?
